A man accused of shoplifting from Walmart died after falling off a cliff while trying to escape authorities.

The incident took place Sunday, a man and two accomplices were accused of stealing items at a Walmart. Police were called and the two accomplices were arrested, but the one man ran from the scene, per the police account.

He crossed an interstate that is adjacent to a bluff. Police said they did not pursue the suspect because of the dangerous terrain. A Union Pacific railroad employee found his body Monday.

A man in New Jersey is believed to have lived with a corpse for three days while he used drugs, police said. Officers found Mathew Schmarr, 35, passed out in a residence with a 52-year-old deceased woman on March 21, according to Officers responded after the mother of his child said she received a suspicious text from him.
